What does it look like to be a leader?
Much has been written about this subject. None of which I will be quoting right now.
A leader sets the bar. A leader lights the path. A leader makes the hard decisions. A leader supports, guides and and boosts those under their watch. A leader is calm when all about is chaos. A leader gets down in the trenches with their pack. A leader has the insight to repurpose their frustrations in a particular realm as fuel. Fuel to stoke the fires of their determination. Fuel to feed the flames of introspection and examination. Fuel to continue to cut through the forests and thickets that lay ahead. (The other side of this rain forest of frustration is the beginning of another journey.)
A leader prepares so that those that are with them are prepared. A leader is able to improvise, adapt and overcome. Often at a moments notice. Effective leadership is malleable not rigid. That which will not bend….am I right? A leader listens first, deliberately, then acts with logic, wisdom and precision. A leader does not react. To react is to be led by emotion. This clouds judgement.
Zoom out. Survey everything before you. Whatever the challenge, take the viewpoint of as many perspectives as possible so as to be able to lay your plan with reason. Take action.

An alternate view on the same object: the best kind of leader is the one that his people are barely aware of. When he has done his work, his people say “we ourselves have done this.”
